Heat Wave... But Not The Song
If you haven't seen (which means you live under a rock) there is a heat wave across Europe! That means yours truly, gets to experience +39 degrees, and I must say I would rather -39 because I could at least layer up and stay indoors. I will argue with anyone who disagrees with me. Despite the terrible heat, I am trying to have a good time, and learning all the tricks for staying cool (not that I need help with that). Yesterday I went to the beach in Scheveningen with my friend Raluca!
I met Raluca in Edmonton this past year. She is an international student at King's and a beautiful human-being inside and out! Originally she is from Brussels, and so she invited me to join her family for a day at the beach. It was so beautiful there, and the culture was so peaceful on the beach.
It was very hot there, and I got the worst burn of my life. Needless to say, today, the next day, I am dressed like a nun dying in the heat because I can not have my skin in the sun.
You can see that I already started burning after an hour of being in the sun and wearing sunscreen. Thankfully Debora has zinc, so on top of my aftersun lotion, I have even more healing cream. Which is such a blessing because I literally hurt so much.
I couldn't have asked for a better day. The beach is nothing like the ones in Canada. Fact: they are much hotter. They also have a whole walk filled with restaurants where you can enjoy the beach whilst enjoying wonderful drinks and food.
On Monday I went to Utrecht to ask questions about my living permit, and look around the campus. I ended up not being able to do anything school related because the office was closed for the day. I saw some cool artwork and went shopping instead, so it wasn't all bad.
I also got a sun burn on Monday, but less than the one I got yesterday. Another thing I learnt amidst my exploration is that I have never worn my berks without socks. Apparent it is too cold in Canada to wear them without socks, so on Monday I wore them for the first time without... I have blisters on the tops of my feet and toes. It hurt a lot. Now I have to wear only my flip-flops for a while.
The nature here is beautiful. The heat brings amazing sunsets. I am lucky enough to have people in my life that have nice cameras on their phone that allow me to use their pictures.
I will have more administrative updates soon!
